Welcome to the ESFF

Bringing the public and private sectors together

Assistant Chief Constable (retired) Ian Dickinson, Lothian and Borders Police:

"Welcome to the East of Scotland Fraud Forum (ESFF) website.  I have closely followed the development of the ESFF from the outset and am pleased to announce that we will be launching our programme of events during 2007.

"The aim of the Forum is to bring the public and private sectors together in the fight against fraud.

"Fraud, by its very nature, is pervasive and difficult to identify.  The nature of the way business, commerce, public sector and criminal justice organisations work make it difficult to effectively address fraud – particularly in the field of prevention.

"To deal effectively with this situation, all areas of policing and business need to work closely together to identify those involved and put in place safeguards to prevent opportunities for the criminal.

"Please do take the time to browse the content of this website, which includes fraud prevention advice, latest fraud news, events information and links to other sites of interest.

"Better still, join us in the fight against fraud through membership of the ESFF and benefit from reduced admission to our events.

"I am confident that by working together, we can promote effective communication and make a real difference."

The objective of the East of Scotland Fraud Forum is to promote change and create an open, anti-fraud culture in the East of Scotland.

This will be achieved by:

  • Removing the stigma of talking about fraud
  • Sharing information and promoting partnership working
  • Promoting discussion, obtaining practical outcomes and taking forward a common vision
  • Obtaining new ideas from public and private sector organisations
  • Organising conferences and seminars on subjects relating to our objectives

The East of Scotland Fraud Forum is modelled on the successful template devised by the North East Fraud Forum (NEFF).  The NEFF describe the aim of their project in the following terms, which hold true for the ESFF.

"The culture of British business has a tendency to inhibit proper fraud prevention. The aim of the NEFF will be to promote fraud awareness and successful fraud prevention strategies across both public and private sector regions, by creating a culture of transparency with better flows of information and open discussion aimed at promoting more widespread understanding and better sharing of ideas".
