Serious Fraud

HM Inspectorate of Constabulary for Scotland (HMICS) has inspected how the police service in Scotland addresses serious fraud.  The inspection focused on:

• the strategic approach to fraud, including prevention and detection
• the treatment of victims
• the availability of the relevant skills to forces faced with complex fraud investigations
• the partners involved in preventing and responding to fraud.

HMICS have made a number of recommendations to ensure a more systematic approach to understanding and handling fraud, whilst recognising the need to work with relevant stakeholders across the UK.
